GUWAHATI, Nov 19 At a time when the BJP has targeted 25 lakh members in Assam in its ongoing drive, regional player AGP is aiming to induct at least 35 lakh members across the State.
Our target is to achieve a membership of 35 lakh and will shortly achieve our target, AGP president Atul Bora told reporters here today. He said the drive is going on concurrently with the partys Jatiya Chetna Yatra and the response to both the yatra and the membership drive has been positive so far.
Bora said the first phase of the yatra covering some Lower Assam districts concluded at Rangiya yesterday and the second phase will start from Silapathar on November 25 and cover Lakhimpur, Dhemaji and Sonitpur districts.
People of the State are fed up with the Congress regime. Both BJP and AIUDF play communal politics. In 2016, we want to form a progressive and stable AGP government in Assam, he said.
Accusing BJP of changing its stance on issues like illegal infiltration after winning the
Lok Sabha polls, Bora said, If AIUDF is a secret supporter of Bangladeshis, then BJP is an open supporter of Bangladeshis.
He said AGP will organize Swahid Divas at Amguri in Sivasagar on December 10, where it will announce its agitational programme to press for solving various issues affecting the State.
