AGP stages rally against mega dams

DHEMAJI, Sept 2 � The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today staged a massive protest rally against NHPC at Gerukamukh, demanding stopping of the construction work of Lower Subansiri Hydro electrical project in Arunachal Pradesh.

The rally led by several senior AGP leaders including Chandra Mohan Patowary, former Cheif Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, Birendra Prasad Baishya and Kumar Dipak Das. Over 10 thousand people coming from Dhemaji, Dhakuakhana, Silapathar, Majuli, Lakhimpur and Jonai took part in the rally. The rally started from Santipur stepped forward to near LSHEP dam and demanded for stopping the ongoing construction work of the project.

Earlier, a protest meeting was organised at a distance of three kilometres from the LSHEP dam construction under the presidentship of Dilip Kumar Saikia, secretary, AGP central committee.
