AGP seeks special sesssion on Lokpal Bill

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Aug 24 Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) called for withdrawal of the Government bill and demanded a special session of the Parliament to discuss a fresh Lokpal Bill.

Participating in the all-Party meeting called by the Prime Minister here this evening, AGP MP Biren Baishya favoured the Jan Lokpal Bill of Anna Hazare over the official Bill tabled in the Parliament. The regional Party also supported the proposal to include the Prime Minister under the ambit of the LokPal.

Baishya, who was accompanied by Joseph Toppo, told this newspaper that it may not be possible to discuss and pass the Bill during the current session, as demanded by team Anna. But the Winter Session of the Parliament is far away, so we have suggested that a special session of the Parliament be convened to discuss the Bill, he added.

Joining the Short Duration discussion on corruption in the Rajya Sabha, Kumar Deepak Das called for a comprehensive Bill to curb corruption, rejecting the government sponsored LokPal Bill tabled in the Parliament.

He claimed that the attitude of the Government was suspect and his Party had doubts whether the Centre was interested in curbing corruption.

Extending AGPs full support to the Jan Lokpal Bill of Anna Hazare, Das said that the need of the hour is to work on mission mode to curb corruption.
