AGP seeks probe into Silsaku currency incident

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, June 26 The AGP on Tuesday demanded a high level inquiry into yesterdays incident of currency notes floating in the Silsaku Beel here and said that this incident once again highlighted the deteriorating state of affairs under the Congress rule.

Addressing media persons here, the AGP functionaries said that rampant corruption and black money were the hallmark of Congress and asserted that the currency notes floating in the wetland were black money.

The people of the State must know the source of this black money. The government must not try to downplay this incident, said Durga Das Boro, general secretary of the party.

On the other hand, the party came down heavily on Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his officials for being outside the country at a time when the State was reeling under flood. It needs to be mentioned here that Gogoi, the Revenue Minister and other higher officials related to disaster management are in the US right now.

In the last 13 months, Tarun Gogoi undertook six foreign trips. We dont understand how Gogois foreign trips can contribute towards the development of Assam, said Boro.

Criticizing the Congress government both at the Centre and the State for not taking the necessary steps to address the twin problems of flood and erosion in Assam, the AGP insisted that the Centre at the earliest declare flood in Assam as a national issue.

Alleging that the flood affected people in the State have been deprived of relief as on date, the AGP said that the Congress government is yet to understand the sufferings of the people and the gravity of the flood situation.

The Congress has failed to address the problems of the people. It always downplays the issues of the people by giving some shallow comments, said Boro.

Boro informed that the AGP has directed all its district committees to help the flood affected people.

Meanwhile several organizations have slammed the government for allegedly failing to provide relief to the flood affected people. The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) criticized the government for not taking steps on a war footing to help the flood affected. The student body has instructed all its units to reach out to the flood affected people.

The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) has resented the alleged luxury trip of Tarun Gogoi and his entourage when flood was creating havoc in the State.
