By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 7 The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Monday declared its second candidate list for 35 Assembly constituencies bringing in as many as 14 new faces.

The names of several sitting MLAs feature in this list including those of Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, Brindaban Goswami, Phanibhushan Choudhury, Nurul Hussain, Pradip Hazarika, Girindra Kumar Baruah, Padma Hazarika and Ramendra Narayan Kalita. While Mahanta will contest from 87 No. Barhampur, Goswami will contest from 73 No. Tezpur and Choudhury from 32 No. Bongaigaon.

Party president Chandra Mohan Patowary while addressing mediapersons here said that the third candidate list would be released in another two three days. It needs to be mentioned here that an election committee meeting of the party started today to finalize the names of the candidates for the third list.

Patowary said that the AGP is getting ready to fight the Congress and appealed to all like-minded Opposition parties to come together to oust the Congress from power. The people of Assam want a change and the AGP is determined to bring this change, he said adding that the AGP is trying its best to come to a seat-sharing understanding with the Opposition and discussion with the other regional parties is also going on.

We want an anti-Congress government and to strengthen the Opposition we have decided not to contest in Sarbhog, Nazira, Jamunamukh and Behali, said Patowary.

Coming down heavily on the Congress, Patowary said that its leaders lacked knowledge about the geography and culture of the State and even decency. The Congress leaders have exposed themselves by making indecent remarks against the Opposition in the State, said Patowary.

Some of the partys new faces to contest in the ensuing polls are Prabir Kumar Singh from 12 No. Udarband, Ashok Kumar Rai Pradhani from 24 No. Gauripur, Purandar Rabha from 38 No. Goalpara (West) and Md Jalaluddin Ali from 45 No. Baghbor.
