AGP leaders appeal to PM

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, June 1 The Government of India is compromising with the sovereignty of the nation by encouraging infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals and the Prime Minister should immediately entrust the Army with the responsibility of taking action against the infiltrators, demanded senior Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader Atul Bora.

In a memorandum to the Prime Minister, Bora said that in the interest of Assam and also of the countrys sovereignty, Bangladesh should be treated as an enemy country. He said that the Government of India never realized the threat posed to Indias sovereignty by illegal migration of Bangladeshi nationals. According to an estimate of the Ministry of Home Affairs, about two crore Bangladeshi nationals infiltrated into the country, of which around 50 lakh are in Assam and around 12 lakh Bangladeshi nationals, who came to India with visa and passport, never went back. The Government of India is now planning to relax visa regulations with Bangladesh instead of trying to trace out the Bangladeshi national staying illegally in India.

Bora said that Bangladeshi nationals and forged currencies were posing a threat to sovereignty of India, while, at one point of time, the Government of Bangladesh openly patronized the insurgents of North East.
