By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 13 Asom Gana Parishad working president Atul Bora (Junior) and general secretary Pradip Hazarika today held a meeting with the leaders of the Lotah Ho Ho at Dimapur on the issue of ensuring safety of the people living in the Assam-Nagaland border areas. The Naga members of the Golaghat and Wokha district Friendship Forum were also present at the meeting.

Briefing this newspaper about the meeting, Atul Bora said that they had made an appeal to the leaders of the Lotha Ho Ho and the Naga members of the Friendship Society to extend their full cooperation for maintaining peace and harmony among the people of both the states.

The meeting made an appeal to the members of the Friendship Society to formulate modalities for maintaining peace and harmony in the border areas by ensuring security of the common people.

The meeting also appealed to the administrations of both the states to maintain law and order in the border areas and the neutral forces to maintain neutrality and ensure non-recurrence of any incident that may affect the common people living in the inter-state border areas of Assam and Nagaland, said Bora.

Bora and Pradip Hazarika visited the Merapani area yesterday and talked to the common people. The local people alleged that while some Naga miscreants burnt three houses belonging to the people of Assam at Merapani Kulajan Barbasti, under Sector-D, the CRPF, which has been camping there as a neutral force, was also biased.

Incidents similar to the Merapani arson case have been taking place in Mariani areas in Jorhat district and in Geleki areas in Sivasagar district, Bora said. On May 26 last, 28 electric posts at Krishnapur, Janakpur and Kherbari, near the Na-Pani CRPF camp under C-Sector, were destroyed by the Naga miscreants, Bora said.
