GUWAHATI, Oct 14 - The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has not drifted away from its avowed goals. It will not allow the sacrifices of the martyrs of the Assam Agitation go in vain. This was the assertion made by AGP president Atul Bora at Sarupeta while addressing the open session of the central function held on the occasion of the 32nd foundation day of the regional party.
According to a press release issued by the party, Bora said the AGP is for detection, determination and deportation of illegal migrants on the basis of the Assam Accord. The party will stand by the indigenous peoples of the State during their hour of need.
Addressing the open session, former Chief Minister and founder president of the party Prafulla Kumar Mahanta said that the party would uphold the interests of the indigenous peoples of the State and would not make any compromise with any authority on the issue of illegal migrants.
Mahanta emphasised the need for upholding regionalism for redressing the grievances of the indigenous peoples of the State.
The open session was also attended by senior leaders of the party Phani Bhusan Choudhury, Birendra Prasad Baishya, Biraj Kumar Sarma, Ramendra Narayan Kalita, Dr Kamala Kalita, Kumar Dipak Das, Nurul Hussain, Pabindra Deka, Gunindra Nath Das, Renupama Rajkhowa and Asom Yuva Parishad president Sunil Deka and Asom Mahila Parishad president Dr Amiya Mahanta, among others.
The party also held functions at its Ambari headquarters here to celebrate its 32nd foundation day, added the press release.
