DIBRUGARH, Oct 10 - The Asom Gana Parishad and its affiliated organisations � Asom Yuva Parishad and Asom Mahila Parishad � today gheraoed the private residence of Union Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs Sarbananda Sonowal at Lakhiminagar here in protest against the Narendra Modi-led Central Government�s bid to demean the Assam Accord while proposing to grant citizenship to Hindu refugees in the country.
The AGP demanded the withdrawal of the notification that seeks to accommodate the Hindu refugees in the country as Indian citizens. The protesters raised anti-BJP slogans and slammed Sonowal for �taking an anti-Assamese stand�. The AGP protesters went on to describe Sonowal as jatidrohi (traitor).
Asom Mahila Parishad general secretary Queen Hazarika, AGP central committee member Bharati Saikia, Asom Yuva Parishad president Sunil Rajkonwar, central executive member of AGP Dr Kamini Ranjan Baruah, district AGP president Punakon Baruah and district president of the Asom Yuva Parishad Ganesh Gogoi led the gherao programme.
