AGP gearing up for panchayat polls in Nalbari dist

NALBARI, Nov 7 - The alliance partner of State�s BJP-led government, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) is gearing up for the ensuing Panchayat election to be held in the first phase on December 9 in Nalbari district.

The Asom Gana Parishad has so far decided to fight the polls in 12 Zila Parishad seats out of 13 in the district. The party leaders are in search of suitable candidate for the Bhangnameri Zila Parishad seat of the riverine area. It was disclosed by Keshab Deka, general secretary of Nalbari district unit of the party.

Talking to this correspondent, Deka said that the AGP will fight all the seats alone in 65 anchalik panchayat and gaon panchayat seats of Nalbari district. Similarly, the party has decided to offer candidatures in almost all the 650 seats of panchayat members.

He added that the Asom Gana Parishad which has a comfortable base in the district, has already constituted all the booth-level committees. A senior leader of the regional outfit Deka added that in the last panchayat poll, the Asom Gana Parishad had good representation. Deka is hopeful that this time the regional party will succeed in showing better results in the poll.
