GUWAHATI, July 1 The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government at the Centre and said that the actions by the government have totally frustrated the people of Assam.
In a statement here, AGP working president Atul Bora said that the BJP-led government has totally gone against the expectations of the people. He pointed out that the people, who were frustrated at price rise and corruption of the Congress-led UPA government, voted the BJP to power. But the BJP-led government has broken all the records of the UPA in increasing the prices of the essential commodities, Bora said.
The AGP further said that the government has failed to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Assam on the issue of infiltration of foreign nationals into India. Bora said that during the recent visit to Bangladesh, the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj failed to raise the issue of infiltration of foreigners, while she also agreed to give multiple entry visa to Bangladeshi nationals below 13 years and above 65 years of age. The Minister also did not oppose the land swap deal, by which India agreed to hand over Assams land to Bangladesh, Bora said.
The AGP also called upon the BJP MPs from Assam to make their stand clear on the anti-people and anti-Assam steps taken by the Government of India.
Meanwhile, the AGP also strongly criticized the State Government for increasing the power tariff.
