AGP demands release of Anna Hazare

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Aug 17 Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Wednesday demanded unconditional release of Anna Hazare from prison.

Participating in a discussion on the Prime Ministers statement on Anna Hazare, AGP MP Biren Baishya in Rajya Sabha urged the Centre to allow the Gandian to continue with his movement without any restriction.

Claiming that Centre has failed to curb corruption, Baishya said that AGP would extend its support if the UPA Government took effective steps to check the menace. The AGP MP recalled the steps taken by the United front Government to table the Lok Pal Bill.

One of the agenda of the Common Minimum Programme of the UF, which was drafted in 1996, was supported by AGP.

Baishya also ridiculed the handling of the agitation by Hazare, stating that the Centre looked nervous and in the process took some undemocratic and un-constitutional measures like refusing permission to stage rally at Jantar Mantar and JP Park.
