GUWAHATI, May 19 � The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Thursday asserted that the defeat of the AGP in the Assembly elections must not be seen as rejection of regionalism by the people of Assam. The student body also voiced for all the nationalist forces to unite and bring the desired political changes in the State.
During a press conference here, AJYCP adviser Dilip Patgiri said that the people of Assam have rejected the AGP as a party because it failed to connect to the people.
�Regionalism is still alive. One reason for the massive mandate the Congress got is that the people did not want the AGP and neither BJP nor AIUDF was acceptable to them,� opined Patgiri, stressing that the time was conducive for all nationalist forces to come together.
It needs to be mentioned here that the student body which has been pressing for full autonomy for the State since its inception has decided to intensify its movement for update of NRC.
General secretary of AJYCP Manoj Baruah said that the student body would support all welfare and development activities of the government, but it would also protest against all anti people decision or action of the government. �We have always been protesting against all anti people activities of the government and will continue to do so,� he said warning that the Congress government must not take the big mandate as a license for corruption.
On the other hand, Baruah said that the government should not ignore the issue of infiltration which has threatened the very existence of the indigenous communities of the State and focus on update of the NRC at the earliest.
The AJYCP has insisted on the government to initiate dialogue with all the insurgent groups in the State for lasting peace and development. It has further demanded of the government togive priority to resolving the problem of flood and erosion, price rise, unemployment, etc.
