AGP, CPI flay govt decision on bus fare hike

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 22 The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has protested the decision of the government to hike bus fares terming it as anti-people.

The party said that the hike in bus fares will hit the common people hard already affected by the sky rocketing prices of all essential commodities including food grain.

Slamming the government for its failure to check the increasing prices, the party said that the people will have to voice their protest against all anti people steps of the government.

The CPI, Assam State Council has also decried the government decision, saying that the government has once again exhibited its anti people stand by endorsing the hike as demanded by the associations of commercial vehicle owners.

In a statement the party said that in no other State, the governments were burdening the common people with abnormally high bus fares as was being done in Assam.

The government needs to evolve a mechanism, if necessary by subsidizing the transport sector, so that the commoners do not end up bearing the brunt of the inflationary hike in bus fares, it said.
