AGP blasts Cong, BJP for false propaganda

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, Sep 1 - The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today lashed out at the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that they were trying to mislead the people of Assam by resorting to false propaganda against the regional party.

Both the Congress and the BJP have become brothers now and are disseminating concocted stories about the AGP, said AGP president Atul Bora while addressing a press meet at its party office here today.

We are busy with a programme which aims at reaching out to the voters across the State. Neither we have time to meet the ministers nor there arises any need on our part, he claimed, adding, People are disgusted with the acts of both the national parties and the AGP will emerge as a potent force in the ensuing polls.

Refuting media reports about AGP leaders meeting a Congress minister to explore poll-related possibilities, Bora said that the stories had possibly been planted by the BJP.

He went on to allege that both the Congress government in the State and the BJP at the Centre were more concerned and busy with their internal politics rather than the flood situation in the State.

The flood-affected people are in a hostage situation, thanks to the indifferent attitude of both the State government and the Centre, Bora said.

Taking potshots at the NDA government, Bora said it had failed to live up to the expectations of the people of Assam and demanded a special financial package for the flood-affected State.

Both, the erstwhile UPA government and the present NDA government have betrayed the people of Assam in the name of solving the problem of flood and erosion, he asserted.

On the Louis Berger scam, the AGP president opined that there was a deep-rooted conspiracy associated with it and it was even more baffling as to why a CBI inquiry had not been recommended by the State government.
