NEW DELHI, Dec 27 Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Tuesday made unsuccessful attempts to raise the issue of police action on demonstrators protesting against the construction of the Lower Subansiri hydropower project in Lakhimpur district.
AGP MP Biren Baishya tried in vain to make a submission in Rajya Sabha this morning before the Chairman disallowed, pointing out that Zero Hour was not listed on the agenda today.
Amidst interruptions, Baishya was heard saying that he wanted to raise the important issue concerning police firing and lathicharge on hapless people staging demonstrations against construction of the dam. I want to raise an issue concerning police firing and lathicharge in Assam, he said.
Baishya later told newsmen that he had urged the Central Government to prevail upon the State Government to resolve the impasse through negotiations.
