GUWAHATI, March 12 � The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today announced the first list of its candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. AGP president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta announced the names of the party candidates for seven Lok Sabha seats at the party�s Ambari State headquarters here.
Party publicity secretary Manoj Saikia said former Union Minister Birendra Prasad Baishya has been named as the AGP candidate for the Guwahati Lok Sabha seat. For the Barpeta Lok Sabha seat, AGP Legislature Party Leader Phani Bhusan Choudhury has been named as the party candidate.
For the Kaliabor Lok Sabha seat, former MP Dr Arun Sarma has been named as the AGP candidate, while for the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat Mridula Barkakoty has been named as the party candidate.
For the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha seat, the regional party has named former Tingkhong MLA Anup Phukan as its candidate. The party has named former Minister Pradip Hazarika as its candidate for the Jorhat Lok Sabha seat. For the Lakhimpur Lok Sabha seat, the party has named Hariprasad Dihingia.
Manoj Saikia said that the party has decided to go it alone in the Lok Sabha elections this time and the names of the party candidates for the rest seven Lok Sabha seats would be declared soon.
