AGP activists arrested

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 3 - Several members of the Asom Gana Parishads (AGPs) youth wing, Asom Yuva Parishad, and the womens wing of the regional party, Asom Mahila Parishad, were arrested here today while they were staging a demonstration in front of the residence of the BJP MP from Guwahati, Bijoya Chakravorty.

The Yuva Parishad and Mahila Parishad members resorted to the agitational programme in protest against the blissful silence observed by the Lok Sabha member on the anti-Assam stance of the BJP-led Central Government.

The MP is silent over issues like handing over Assam land to Bangladesh and granting entry and staying rights to non-Muslim migrants, who have entered Assam till December 31, 2014, violating the provisions of the Assam Accord. The Assam Accord has set March 24, 1971 midnight as the deadline for the purpose, said the Yuva Parishad in a press release here.

The Yuva Parishad alleged that the MP was behaving in frenetic manner prior to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections opposing handing over Assam land to Bangladesh. Besides, she was hyperbolic on the resolve of her party to deport illegal Bangla migrants. But after the Lok Sabha polls, she has been toeing the line of her party bosses, which has proved to be detrimental to the interests of Assam and its people, said the Yuva Parishad.

It also warned of vigorous agitational programmes against the MP in the days to come.
