Aged British tourist found dead on cruise boat at Neematighat

JORHAT, Jan 31 - A male British tourist identified as Alastair Neil Macdonald (81) was found dead today inside a tourist luxury Brahmaputra cruise boat at Neematighat on the outskirts here.

According to a police source, Alastair Neil Macdonald (82), a resident of Newcastle upon Tyne, England, was among a group of 25 foreign tourists on a luxury cruise boat named Charaideo II that was on a cruise on the Brahmaputra from Guwahati to Upper Assam tourist spots along the river.

This morning, Macdonald was found dead in his cabin by his fellow members of the group when the boat had anchored at Neematighat, the source said.

The source further stated that as per the statement given by the group members Macdonald on Thursday during the group�s visit to Majuli, felt uncomfortable and had visited the local hospital for a check-up.

The source stated the body of the tourist was sent to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital for post mortem and the district administration informed about the same.

The district administration has intimated Dispur to get in touch with Central Government to report the matter to British High Commission for necessary action, an administration source said.
