Agartala-Deoghar Express flagged off

AGARTALA, July 6 - Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Union Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain today flagged off the Agartala-Deoghar Weekly Express at the Agartala Railway Station. With this a direct train has been introduced to Deoghar, a pilgrim spot for devotees of Thakur Anukul Chandra.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said connectivity plays a key role in the development of a State and this has been improved in the State over the past four years.

Development will be ushered in, in the entire North East region during the current Central Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A 129-km stretch of the Kamalpur-Santir Bazar-Amarpur road has been approved for four-laning. This will further boost connectivity, Deb said.

In his speech, Union minister Gohain claimed Tripura has witnessed a lot of positive change under the BJP-led NDA regime. At present 12 trains are running from the Agartala Railway Station and more are in the offing, he said.

Gohain hoped that Tripura would be among the best NE States once it is connected with Akhaura and the Chittagong port in Bangladesh.

The Deoghar Express has 16 coaches, which will travel 1,462 km in 39 hours. There will be 20 stops on its way from Agartala to Deoghar.

Transport Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Deputy Speaker Biswabandu Sen and State BJP prabhari Sunil Deodhar were present during the flagging-off ceremony.
