AFA gearing up for WC qualifier

GUWAHATI, Feb 12 � The Assam Football Association (AFA) is gearing up for hosting the FIFA World Cup 2018�s Asian qualifying match which will be played at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Sarusajai here on March 12 between India and Nepal.

Informing about the preparation for the match, the AFA secretary Ankur Dutta said in a press conference here today that the All India Football Federation (AIFF) was happy with the infrastructure here at the Sarusajai stadium and allotted the match to AFA. The away match will be held on March 17 in Nepal.

Thanking AIFF for allotting the match, Dutta said, the ground condition is in fine shape and the other required infrastructure like flood light, dressing room, referees� room etc are also almost ready.

The selection camp of the Indian team will also be staged here from March 4 at the main ground. After selection, the Indian team will stay at the Radisson Blu Hotel. The Nepal team, to be arrived here on March 9, will camp at the Lily Hotel. Dutta is optimistic that the Sarusajai stadium will be a venue for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup as the FIFA team, which visited the stadium in November last returned with a positive mind set.

The tickets for the match will be issued from March 9 at different venues. The match will be played under lights from 7 pm.
