AERC issues tariff order

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 25 The Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission (AERC) has issued a tariff order for the financial year of 2008-09 for the 9 MW Adamtilla and the 15.5 MW Baskandi power plants of Eastern India Power Ltd (EIPL) in Barak Valley.

Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB) is purchasing power from these two power plants at a tariff based on terms and provisions of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed between the power generators and the ASEB since the commercial operation of the plants started till the filing of the tariff petition by the generators for the financial year of 2008-09.

In the interest of continuity of operation, a provisional tariff order was issued by the AERC in May 2009. But this was challenged by the EIPL before the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL) in New Delhi. The Tribunal referred the matter to the AERC for final determination of tariff.

The final tariff order passed by the AERC on October 20 for the 2008-09 financial year has asked the EIPL to issue the power bills to the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL), a successor company of the ASEB, for the power sent out from its generating stations to the latters distribution system.

The EIPL is to bill the APDCL in accordance with the AERC final tariff order adjusting the changes in the provisional tariffs.

The EIPL has also been asked to renew its gas supply agreement which expired in October 2010, within December 31 next. The final tariff order is available on the AERC website www.aerc.gov.in, said an AERC press release here.
