Adreeja clinches chess title

GUWAHATI, Jan 28 - Adreeja Sinha clinched the title in the 2nd Ayodhana Open Chess Tournament organised by Chess Players� Parents Forum at the Guwahati Chess Academy, RG Baruah Road on January 26 and 27.

Adreeja remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and scored 4.5 points from 5 rounds. Abhinav Dubey also scored 4.5 points from same number of rounds but was declared second on the basis of tie-break score. Nihad Islam Hazarika scored 4 points to secure the third position. Unmilita Pathak also scored 4 points and got fourth position on the basis of her tie-break score. Pran Govinda Parashar Kashyap scored 3.5 points to occupy the fifth position.

In the U-11 category, Ikshita Barman scored 3.5 points to ensure the top position. Shuvang Pran Kashyap scored 3 points to remain in the second spot while Ankit Basumatary also scored 3 points but was declared third on the basis of tie-break score.

In the U-15 category, Kritarth Baruah got first position by scoring 3 points. Manish Gwra Basumatary also scored 3 points but he was declared second on the basis of tie-break score. Anubrat Barthakur got third position in this category by scoring 2.5 position.

The tournament attracted 25 players from across the city. The tournament was conducted in the Swiss League system of 5 rounds. Pranab Kumar Nath conducted the tournament as chief arbiter and he was assisted by deputy arbiter Bamcha Singh.
