Adopt need-based schemes, PC urges Arunachal

TAWANG , Dec 31 � Visiting Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has urged the Arunachal Pradesh Government to go for need-based schemes as per people�s choice in order to have speedy development.

Talking to officials P Chidambaram said, �There will be no dearth of funds for this land-locked State. But there must be clarity in all the projects and schemes to be implemented.�

The Union Home Minister also advised the officials to properly monitor all projects in Arunachal Pradesh. He also stressed on maintaining accountability and transparency on every penny spent.

Chidambaram who arrived here this morning accompanied by the Minister of State for Planning V Narayanswamy in an Air Force chopper inaugurated the passenger ropeway connecting Tawang Monastery to Gyangong Ani Gonpa. He also inaugurated the newly-constructed Deputy Commissioner�s office.

�With the inauguration of the ropeway and the DC office, a new era of development has started in this remote district bordering China�, he added.

The ropeway had been constructed by the State PWD with a total estimate of Rs 330.89 lakh. 90 per cent of the fund was sanctioned by DoNER minister under non-lapsable central pool of resources.

The foundation stone of the ropeway was laid by the former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam in October 2002. The length of the ropeway is 1184 metres with level difference between upper and lower terminals of 164 metres. Having a capacity of carrying 8 people, the ropeway would take 8 minutes to cover the distance.

Responding to a memorandum demanding grant of Rs 150 crore package for developing the district and preservation of Bhoti language (spoken by Buddhists), Chidambaram assured to take up the matter with the respective ministries.

He also announced to initiate efforts for preservation of Bhoti scripts in digitized form.

�Arunachal shares a special place in our hearts and we will always pay attention for its development at par with other developed State of the country�, the Home Minister added.

Meanwhile, the Union Home Minister said that the Congress party always advocated for inclusive growth of every sections of the society irrespective of caste, creed and religion.

Addressing a public rally at general ground in Tawang bordering China, Chidambaram emphatically said that the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre always bats for uniform development in all parts of the country and relentlessly working for the common people.

�Every section of people has a place in the Congress and no other parties embrace all race, language and community like us. Our ideology is based on the visions of our great leaders�, he said.
