Admin to take up cleanliness in Govt offices

GUWAHATI, Oct 14 � The Kamrup Metro district administration will undertake a major cleanliness drive at all government offices in the city with a target to spruce up all such places within 15 days.

A meeting of the Kamrup Metro District Unnayan Samiti was held at the Deputy Commissioner�s office here today under the chairmanship of Dr M Angamuthu, DC, during which development projects of various departments were reviewed.

During the meeting, Dr Angamuthu pointed out to the unhygienic and pathetic condition of various government offices and directed that both the office premises and the adjoining places should be cleaned up within 15 days, stated an official press release.

He said that in this regard a committee will be formed with the assistance of NGOs which will visit all government offices in the district during the first and second weeks of November and collect photographic evidence and also videograph the places.

Dr Angamuthu also instructed that provision should be made for safe and potable drinking water at all government offices for staff and visitors and location of the water filters should be identified with signboards in both English and Assamese.

The DC also directed the ASEB to increase the height of transformers in low-lying and flood-prone areas. He also said that publicity should be carried out to ensure that householders keep their inverters and electricity meters at a proper height from the ground and the ASEB should monitor it.

The Public Works Department (Road) has been asked to remove all electricity poles located in middle of roads.

During the meeting, Dr Angamuthu said that one Additional Deputy Commissioner, along with Circle Officers and District Health Officers, will carry out inspections of all health centres and sub-centres in the Kamrup Metro district.

He added that the first phase of the �Raijor Padulit Raijor Sarkar� programme will be started from November 19 to 26 in which the departments of rural development, health, education and public health will be included.

A coordination committee at the district level would be formed for this purpose headed by an Additional DC and comprising Planning Officer, Circle Officers and other senior staff.

Meanwhile, the district administration has also directed the Forest Department to clear encroachments in forest lands located in the city and its vicinity.
