Admin crackdown on Chinese products

GUWAHATI, Oct 21 � In the run-up to the Diwali festival, the Kamrup Metro district administration has started a drive against Chinese-made items as well as adulterated sweets, milk and confectionaries.

Seven teams of officials, headed by magistrates and consisting of police officials, have been formed for checking and raids against Chinese firecrackers.

The drives have been intensified at Pandu, Panbazar, Chandmari, Dispur, Sonapur and Azara circles. The administration has warned traders from selling such Chinese products and warned of legal action in case of violation. The drive will continue for next three days.

Meanwhile, the administration has also directed the Revenue department to keep a close tab to ensure that traders are regular with their tax payments.

In a related development, drives have also been started to check and prevent sale of substandard and adulterated sweets, milk and related products. The drives, which will also continue for three days, are being undertaken by a team led by a Food Inspector and consisting of officials from the Food and Civil Supplies department.

Besides, in an order issued by ADC Dhrubajyoti Das, the administration today prohibited the use of fireworks and bursting of crackers within 500-metre radius of Guwahati Refinery and oil pipelines located in the Kamrup Metro district. The administration said such sites contain highly inflammable items which may cause fire and result in imminent danger to safety and security of people.
