GOSSIGAON, Dec 10 - The Bharat Mukti Morcha and the Jharkhand Desom Partys local units have called upon all adivasis to come together on a single platform to fight for their constitutional rights.
This call was given at a three-day convention of the organisations held at Uttarpara here from December 5-7. The convention urged all adivasis to unite and raise their voice against the apathetic attitude of the State Government towards their plight. The Beltola episode of December 7, 2007 at Guwahati was recalled in which many adivasis were beaten up and one girl, Laxmi Orang was stripped naked.
The president of the Bharat Mukti Morcha, Baman Mechram said that 15 per cent of the upper caste people have been ruling the country, riding roughshod over the aspirations of the 85 per cent people of the lower castes. Salkhan Murmu, president of the Jharkhand Desom Party and an ex-MP of Jharkhand urged the gathering to come forward to get their share of the fruits of development. Referring to the Beltola episode as a black chapter in their history, the open session however also passed a resolution requesting all the people to maintain peace and harmony in the society in their fight for the fulfilment of their rights.
