Adip Phukan, Jitul Sonowal join BJP

GUWAHATI, Feb 27 � The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh got another shot in the arm with the joining of former student leader and journalist Adip Phukan, popular singer Jitul Sonowal and advocate Ram Chandra Saikia today at the party headoffice at Hengrabari.

Many former student leaders and lawyers also joined the saffron brigade, pledging support to Narendra Modi and to oust the corrupt Congress government.�At a well-attended function the party�s state president Sarbananda Sonowal welcomed the new members with BJP scarves and handed over�the primary membership of the party to them.

Senior party functionaries present on the occasion included Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Santanu Bharali, Phanindra Sarma, Vijay Gupta, Shiladitya Dev, Mriganka Barman and a host of other party activists.

Later, addressing the media,�Sonowal said�the Congress-led government has ditched the people and failed to deliver and so the mood of the people is to reject them.

�People, both in the Barak Valley and Brahmaputra Valley are dissatisfied with the bad governance, corruption, price rise, unemployment and other infrastructural problems and the belief that only the BJP can transform India has motivated people from all walks of life to come forward and join the party,� said Sonowal.

Sonowal said that Assam has various problems but the Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi during his 25 minutes speech at Guwahati did not refer to a single issue.
