By SANJOY RAY

PATNA, June 25 Asserting that adequate security measures have been put in place, Director General of Police, Bihar, PK Thakur has assured that the pilgrims of the Ambubachi Mela and those travelling to and from Guwahati via Bihar need not panic.

Adequate security measures have been taken for passengers safety and there is no need for any apprehension, Thakur told The Assam Tribune.

The assurance from the police chief comes after unconfirmed reports of Naxals effecting derailment of the Dibrugarh-bound Rajdhani Express. The DGP also held a meeting with top police officials at his office today to review the situation.

The derailment triggered widespread apprehensions among railway commuters and sent the police and security agencies into a tizzy. It is still not confirmed whether it was any kind of negligence on the part of the Railways or any act of sabotage that caused the derailment.

Thousands of devotees from across the country are scheduled to travel to and from Guwahati via Bihar for the Ambubachi Mela. Lakhs of devotees mostly from West Bengal, Odisha and Bihar visit Guwahati for the holy festival of Ambubachi Mela.
