Acting CJ Vaiphei to take over on Oct 21

GUWAHATI, Oct 17 - The President of India has appointed Justice Tinlianthang Vaiphei as the Acting Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.

Justice Vaiphei will assume his new responsibility from October 21, said a statement issued by the Registrar General of the Gauhati High Court.

�The President of India is pleased to appoint Justice Tinlianthang Vaiphei, senior-most Judge of the Gauhati High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from October 21, 2015, consequent upon the retirement of Justice K Sreedhar Rao, Acting Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court,� said the Registrar General of the Gauhati High Court.

It added, �Justice Vaiphei, after obtaining LLB degree from Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi, in 1979, enrolled in the Bar Council of Assam, etc., on August 22, 1980, and started his practice.�

Justice Vaiphei was appointed as the Additional Advocate General, Mizoram, in September 2000 and he was designated as Senior Advocate in February, 2001. He was elevated to the Bench as Additional Judge, Gauhati High Court, on July 17, 2003, and was made permanent Judge on February 28, 2005.
