ACMS against change in ration system

By STAFF Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 5 In a decision that may have far-reaching consequences for the tea industry of the State, the Plantation Federation of the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) has viewed that the system of supply of ration to the tea workers should continue unhampered.

According to ACMS general secretary Dileswar Tanti, the Federation in its executive committee meeting held here yesterday, viewed that the ration supplied by the tea garden managements to their respective workers form a part of the workers wages.

Therefore, the Federation viewed that the ration provided by the tea garden managements to their workers should continue as it is, irrespective of any change in the legal provisions concerning the Government subsidies on the food grains covered by the ration system. How the food grains for the purpose could be collected should be the concern of the management of the tea gardens, not the workers, viewed the meeting, Tanti said.
