Acharya misinformed about agreement: NSCN-IM

By Correspondent

DIMAPUR, Sept 11 - The NSCN-IM today claimed that Nagaland and Assam Governor PB Acharya was totally misinformed or ignorant of the framework agreement signed between Government of India and the NSCN-IM on August 3 last.

Reacting to Acharyas recent statement that NSCN has given up the demand for a sovereign Nagaland, the NSCN-IM, in a release, cited the agreement which says according to the universal principle, sovereignty lies with the people, not government.

The outfit, therefore, said the sovereignty of India lies with the Indian people and the sovereignty of the Nagas lies with the Naga people. It, however, added that there would be sharing of sovereign power.

Stating that the framework agreement is the foundation upon which the edifice of solution would be built, the NSCN-IM said, as per the agreement, India and Nagas would co-exist as two entities. Also, citing the agreement, which says that Naga issue is a political problem that calls for political solution and history and the situation of the Nagas is unique, the NSCN-IM said this meant Nagas have never been a part of the Union of India either by conquest or by consent.

Asserting that Acharya, much against the spirit and letter of the agreement, also reiterated no areas of other States will be lumped with Nagaland. The NSCN-IM said we believe he has made the statement without a second thought.

It said the Nagas never grabbed even an inch of land from their neighbours, rather their lands were divided and taken by neighbouring States against their wishes. Division of Naga territory is one of the causes of the resistance movement, it stated.

Maintaining there would be no peaceful and honourable solution so long as Nagas are kept divided, the NSCN-IM said territorial integration of the Nagas is a natural necessity, not a choice or demand.

It informed that representatives from all sections of Naga people unanimously approved and endorsed framework agreement in their consultative meeting on August 25, 2015.

The release also stated that on August 26, 2015, the NSCN authorities and 60 members of Nagaland Assembly along with two MPs of the State had a historic open interaction on framework agreement where the latter too gave support.
