ACC moves CM over attacks on traders

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 19 Expressing grave concern over the failure of the police in getting to the roots of the repeated fatal attacks on businessmen in the city, the Assam Chamber of Commerce (ACC) said that the deteriorating law-and-order situation in the city exposed the hollow nature of the security arrangements in the State capital.

The ACC also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding his intervention in the matter so that the business community could leave behind its fear psychosis and go about their routine activities in a tension-free atmosphere.

Several incidents of armed miscreants firing at businessmen have occurred in the city in the past week or so, resulting even in death. The business community now fears to venture out in the night. We expect the police to more active in ensuring a normal situation for the citizens. We feel that your intervention is necessary towards that end, it said.
