Academician Mridupaban Goswami dead

JORHAT, Dec 29 - Noted educationist and former president of the North East India History Association, Mridupaban Goswami passed away at a private nursing home here today due to cardiac and respiratory problems. He was 81.

Family members said that the cremation would take place on Thursday after the arrival of his only son from England.

Goswami was a former principal of the Post Graduate Training College, Jorhat and the founder patron of the Jorhat Itihas Anusandhan Samiti. The veteran educationist was associated with the managing committees of various educational institutions here and inspired young scholars to conduct research in history and education.

One of his books, Buranji Prabah, was prescribed as the History textbook by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) for high school students.

Goswami�s death was condoled by teachers, researchers and many organisations here. �His death has caused an irreparable loss in the realm of education and historical research in the entire region,� said Soumitra Pujari, assistant professor of History of Jorhat College.
