Academic Staff College, GU to conduct training programmes

GUWAHATI, April 22 � Under the aegis of University Grant Commission (UGC), the Academic Staff College, Gauhati University, has proposed to conduct a number of training programmes for teaching and non-teaching staff of universities and colleges during the academic calendar 2012-13.

The new academic session will begin with two orientation programmes for teachers from April 23 to May 20, where a number of teachers from different corners of the country are expected to participate.

The orientation programme will be followed by refresher courses in different subjects, such as: (i) Assamese and Law from May 28 to June 5, (ii) Comparative Literature (ID) and Life Sciences from July 16 to August 5, (iii) Education and English Language Teaching from August 20 to September 9, (iv) Commerce (micro finance) and Philosophy from September 17 to October 7, and Electronics, Environmental Sciences and Mathematics from December 20 to January 9.

�The new feature of this academic year is that there are two refresher courses on research methodology (Literature and cultural group, Social Science group) and three Interdisciplinary refresher courses (Soft- skill development, Disaster Management, and Tribal study of NE India),� an official statement from GU said, adding that the college has so far proposed 11 short-term courses of six-day duration.

These courses include Principals� workshop on general administration & Accounts, Recent trends in Assamese literature, Current research trends in Plant-sciences, Theoretical and applied research in chemistry, Contemporary issues in economics, Issues in teacher education, Climate change and its effects, English for academic writing, Current research trends in Earth Sciences, Folk culture in Assam and NE India, and Continuous assessment under semester system.

The college is also planning to conduct two programmes for non-teaching staff (laboratory technician and accounts assistants), two Interactive programmes for PhD students and two orientation programmes for teachers.

In addition to all these, the college has its own proposal to conduct a one-day workshop in order to review all the programmes held within the year. All the programmes will be coordinated by senior teachers of the university.
