ACA to provide ex-gratia to former players

GUWAHATI, Aug 6 � About 150 former Ranji players of Assam will be benefited as Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has resolved to provide them ex-gratia.

In the ACA governing body meeting held at Golaghat yesterday, the State cricket body has resolved to provide Rs 25,000 each to the players who played 1 to 5 matches. Those who played 6 to 10 matches will get Rs 50,000 each while Rs 75,000 each will be provided to the players who played 11 to 15 Ranji matches. The players who played more than 16 matches will get Rs 1,00,000 each.

However, the players who get BCCI pension will not come under this scheme. Moreover veteran sportsperson and former ACA secretary Pulin Das will be provided Rs 1,00,000 by the cricket body.

Disclosing this, ACA secretary Bikash Baruah said Assam is the first State to take such a step for the benefit of former players. Following the footsteps of BCCI, the State cricket body is implementing this scheme.

The ex-gratia will be distributed in a function to be held this month.

The ACA governing body also nominated Niloy Dutta and Rani Narah as vice-presidents while Sanatan Das and Ajoy Sarma were nominated as joint secretaries along with Bishnuram Nunisa after the amendment of ACA constitution. Now ACA will have four assistant secretaries. With Susanta Biswa Sarma already in the post, Imdad Hussain, Parimal Sinha and Sanjib Handique are likely to be the new joint secretaries.

Baruah revealed that a new tournament for boys U-13 years will be introduced in memory of former joint secretary Umananda Bora who died last year. The ACA is also planning to organise selection trials at grassroot level in order to bring out new talents. Some changes in the format inter districts tournaments will also take place from the coming season, informed Baruah.
