GUWAHATI, Sept 6 - The role of the senior selection committee members of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) is under scanner as the list of the Ranji Trophy probables for the coming season contains several players who hardly have qualification for getting berth in the list.
It has been appeared that some of the players without having performance in Ranji Trophy, who were picked for the recently held exposure tour and did not have satisfactory show at Bangalore and Chennai meets managed to get a berth in the probables� list. One of the players, Parthajit Baishya, who neither played Ranji Trophy earlier nor had successful inter district season last year, was picked for the trial camp. When contacted Mukut Das, member of the selection panel, said Parthajit was in the U-23 team last year. If it is so, than all the players of last year�s U-23 team had to be picked for the camp.
Moreover, Samik Das, who scored 430 runs in the ACA�s last senior inter district championship and was awarded the best batsman trophy by the ACA, surprisingly missed the bus for the selection camp. The chairman of the selection committee Naren Sabhapandit said, he does not have much idea on the matter and he has to go through again for finding the fact.
This kind of activities by the responsible selection panel will certainly raise question about their genuineness in selecting proper talents.
