ACA felicitates Abu Nechim

GUWAHATI, Oct 11 � Assam pacer, Abu Nechim Ahmed, who played a vital role in Mumbai Indian�s maiden Champions League victory recently, was accorded a warm felicitation by the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) in a function at the Nehru Stadium here today.

Playing for Mumbai Indians, Abu took eight wickets in six outings, spearing 132 runs with an average of 7.47 per over. He was the fourth highest wicket taker in the meet.

On behalf of ACA, secretary Bikash Baruah honoured Abu with Rs 51,000 for his achievement. Umananda Bora, Bishnu Ram Nunisa, Bhakti Medhi and Imdad Hussain also felicitated Abu on behalf of Lakhimpur CA, Karbi Anglong DSA, Goalpara DAS and Charaideo DAS respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Baruah expressed satisfaction over his performance and hoped in the coming Ranji season he will be able to maintain the same type of form for Assam. Baruah also revealed that he has urged the BCCI selectors to consider Abu for the senior India team considering his performances in IPL and Champions League. Baruah, however, stressed the fact that one must perform consistently well in domestic cricket. But he hoped that with such performances, Abu will certainly be able to draw attention of the national selectors.

Former international cricketer Sanjay Raul of Orissa, who is here as a match referee of the ongoing U-19 Women One-day Cricket Championship, also praised Abu for his brilliant show in the Champions League. He said Abu is already knocking on the doors of the Indian senior team and with some effort and luck he may make it to the national side soon. He also urged other youngsters to follow Abu�s footsteps and become even better cricketers than the pacer.

Chairman of the Indian women selection committee Gargi Banerjee was also present on the occasion and appealed to the young cricketers, both boys and girls, to be encouraged by Abu�s performances at the top level. She hoped like Abu, some Assam girls also will come up to the national level soon. It is worth mentioning that Manisha Das has been spotted as one of the probables of the Indian women team.

Abu, in his speech, thanked ACA officials for their efforts in building the State Ranji team and their support to him in every aspect.
