GUWAHATI, Sept 7 � Local outfit Abutani Sports Club stunned Morning Star Club of Diphu 2-0 in the inaugural match of the 4th Gauhati Town Club (GTC) Challenge Football Trophy tournament at the Judges� Field here today.
Richard and Romeo scored two snap goals for Abutani in the 24th and 25th minutes respectively.
It was the visiting team which started dominating at the initial stage with some better team work. But gradually the Guwahati Sports Association�s A division team took control and started raiding the opponent territory with some methodical play. The momentum of the match was quite satisfactory as in an ideal playing condition under lights both the teams adopted attacking tactics through out the course.
Earlier, the tournament was formally inaugurated by East Guwahati MLA Captain Robin Bordoloi. GTC officials Pradip Phukan, Joydip Baruah, Devojit Saikia, Sazzad Hussain along with top Airtel official George Mathan were also present on the occasion. Players of both the teams were introduced to the players of the participating teams and match officials.
