ABSU vows to intensify Statehood movement

By Correspondent

KOKRAJHAR, Feb 10 The delegates session on the concluding day of the 43rd annual conference of ABSU took a pledge to intensify the Statehood demand through the democratic process, said Promod Boro, president of ABSU.

In the open session of the conference recently, eight important resolutions were unanimously adopted, disclosed Boro. The Statehood demand has figured as most urgent including the demand to the Government to resolve the Bodo problem through talks with pro-talk and anti-talk factions of NDFB in the similar manner as that being seen in case of the ULFA for lasting peace in the area.

At the same time, ABSU has resolved to stay away from the membership of the recently constituted the BNC. But it has welcomed the effort of the BNC towards peace, unity and integrity of the Bodo organisations to resolve multiple issues of the Bodo society.

Further, ABSU has expressed concern over the alleged neglect on the part of the present Government for which the Bodo society has been facing serious crisis. It has become educationally backward. In fact the Government has failed to create separate directorate for Bodo medium institutions, provincialisation of Bodo medium schools and so on. However, the ABSU is determined to expedite the Mission Quality Education which was launched by the ABSU in root. A campaign would be launched to enforce its activities till 2015, he added.

Meanwhile, the ABSU has also reconstituted its executive of 28 members keeping Promod Boro as president and Jiron Basumatary as secretary for another period of two years.

It may be mentioned here that Hira Charan Narzary, founder vice-president of ABSU, attended the open session as the chief guest and Dr Kameswar Brahma, president of BSS, inaugurated the same while Subir Bhowmick, staff reporter of BBC NE Zone, also attended among other dignitaries.
