ABSU to support good candidates

By The Assam Tribune

KALAIGAON, Jan 12: ABSU will support good candidates in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls in Assam this year for solution of the long-pending problems of BTAD, said Pramod Boro, president of the student body on the concluding day of its 46th annual convention held at Bhergaon today.

Presiding over the open session, Boro said the central executive of ABSU had decided to support good candidates in the coming LS polls. It was necessary keeping in view the long-pending demand for a separate state for the Bodos and other communities living in BTAD. Without political goodwill the BTAD problems can never be solved, he said.

He also said that burning issues like extortion, killings and kidnapping have crippled not only BTAD, but Assam as a whole. According to him the ABSU was committed for a peaceful BTAD and Assam. He requested other organisations and political parties to think positive rather than to issue press releases.

On the large-scale deforestation in BTAD, the ABSU president said that the student body would take action in February this year to motivate people and to stop deforestation and poaching of wild animals, especially rhinos and wild elephants.
