ABSU protest police failure to nab culprits

By Correspondent

TEZPUR, Feb 21 Registering strong protest against the alleged failure of the police to book the culprits behind the rape and murder of a student of Lal Bahadur Shastri High School, Bhalukpung, along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, the Sonitpur ABSU unit, in association with its Balipara and Rangapara branches and the local people, blocked the inter-State border road in the Bhalukpung area under the Chardwar PS for about five hours on Friday.

It may be mentioned here that the Class VII student had been missing since February 11. Her body was found on February 14. After an investigation, the police ascertained that the student was murdered after rape. But they merely picked up some youths from the Bhalukpung Railway Station on suspicion. It is alleged that the real culprits involved in the gruesome act are still free.

Demanding the immediate arrest of the real culprits, their exemplary punishment and the grant of a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the victim, the organisations staged the protest programme. Later, local officials arrived on the spot and assured necessary action to find out the culprits involved in the crime.

A memorandum was also submitted to the officials who interacted with the protesters.
