ABSU-BPF lock horns over molestation bid

By Correspondent

BONGAIGAON, March 19 - All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) have locked horns over a molestation bid on a girl student by some miscreants at Patabari near Kanamakra river under Amguri police station in Chirang district.

The incident occurred on March 15 when some inebriated miscreants attempted to molest a girl student who was returning home from school at Amteka. Somehow, she escaped the bid.

When her native villagers came to know about the incident, they informed the Dwimalu unit of ABSU immediately. The ABSU activists reached the spot and when they warned the miscreants not to repeat such evil acts, the student activists were attacked by the miscreants, who were BPF workers as per the student group.

The incident created unrest among the villagers of the victim.

Meanwhile, BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary on March 16 in an election rally at Oxiguri in Bijni claimed the involvement of ABSU activists in the incident. Fwilao Wary, personal secretary of former Minister Chandan Brahma, on the other hand, posted the same allegation in social media against the student group.

Reacting on the allegations, the Nisima unit of the student group visited Amguri police station on Thursday to file two FIRs against Mohilary and Wary. However, the police denied accepting any FIR against Mohilary and Wary submitted by the student group, but the police lodged the FIR filed by the family of the victim against the miscreants.

The student group would approach the court to file the two FIRs, said its leaders.

On the other hand, BPF office-bearers of Kajalgaon had backed the allegation raised by Mohilary and Wary against the ABSU.
