TEZPUR, July 28 - The Bandarmari State Dispensary under Bandarmari GP of Barchala LAC in Sonitpur district has failed to address the problems of the poor and the agrarian sections of the greater area due to the alleged apathy of the doctors and the medical staff.
The Bandarmari SD, one of the prominent health care centres in the greater area, has every required facility including doctors and medical specialists, permanent laboratory technicians, malaria staff, health educator, ANM nurses etc. The SD is also facilitated with new features like baby care room, dispensary and laboratory. Moreover, to assist the existing doctor of the SD, Dr Sima Das, another doctor Dr Sukriti Adhikari was appointed under the one year rural posting scheme as MO by the NHM. However, the people of the area alleged that despite having all these facilities, they fail to get their required health service due to the apathy of most of the staff.
It is also alleged that the NHM appointed doctor, Dr Sukriti Adhikari and an ANM Nurse Runamoni Saikia are not seen in the dispensary as they often remain absent from their duties.
Not only that the state dispensary has nine centres catering to every health problem of more than 20 villages of the greater area which all depend upon it. As the season is very much prone to the water-borne disease like malaria and jaundice, active involvement of the malaria team (those who are specially trained for field work) in the area is a must, but the team allegedly remains absent. One of the members of the Hospital management committee who didnt want to be named alleged that though this staff sometimes show up in office, they do not go to their areas of work. Urging the authority concerned to take action against these insincere medical workers, he also mentioned that they would inform the Health Minister very soon regarding the issue. We belong to this Boro and Adivasi-inhabied area and we understand their woes. We are pained when it is seen that despite enjoying all government facilities, these medical staff members fail to show sincerity in their duties.
Another serious matter is that the public is still devoid of an obstetrics and gynaecology specialist for safe child delivery as 80 per cent people under this SD cannot afford to go to an urban hospital or any nursing home due to their poor economic condition. So the people of the area are of the opinion that the issue should be taken up seriously by the authority concerned. On the other hand, due to the absence of the doctors who as per the norms should board at the staff quarters, the costly and well-furnished staff quarters are laying in a sorry state.
The local concerned citizens said that the lack of interest of doctors to serve the people in the remote rural areas is the sole reason for this sorry state of the Bandarmari State Dispensary. Conscious people of the area have urged the department concerned to intervene in the entire issue.
