About 22 from State stranded in Chennai: Govt

GUWAHATI, Dec 4 - The State government has so far received information about 22 people from Assam who are stranded in Chennai. The government is keeping a close watch on the situation in Tamil Nadu that witnessed unprecedented flood, and if the situation demands, it will send a senior official to the neighbouring State to ensure the safety of people from Assam.

The government has opened the helpline numbers, 1070 (toll free) and 03612237219, for sharing information regarding anyone stranded in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu due to the flood.

Addressing media persons here today, PK Tiwari, Chief Executive Officer, Assam State Disaster Management Authority, said that the situation in Chennai is under control. �Till 4 pm today, we have received information about 22 people from Assam stranded in Chennai. We are in constant touch with the State Disaster Management Authority, Tamil Nadu, and the NDRF control room, Chennai, to ensure the safety of the people from Assam,� added Tiwari.
