BONGAIGAON, Dec 28 - No need to panic if any citizens name drops from the National Register of Citizens (NRC) draft list, as there will be further options to enlist his or her name in the register.
Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Mohilary on Wednesday said this while addressing the open session of the All BTC Minority Students Unions (ABMSU) three-day sixth biennial central conference which began from December 25 at the Milan Jyoti High School field at Alukhunda in Chirang district.
Mohilary, in his speech, called upon the Muslim community to maintain peace and harmony before and after the publication of the NRC draft and expressed his confidence that the government would certainly do some alternative arrangements for those whose names remain excluded from the NRC list.
Newly elected president Shahkamal Khandakar, in his opening address, demanded that the land rights of the Muslim community be secured by the government in BTC and the State.
Khandakar also raised the issue of the killing of the unions president Lafiqul Islam and expressed discontent over the slow investigation into the case.
Bijni legislator Kamalsingh Narzary also spoke on the development works done by the ruling Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) in the BTC area and sought cooperation from the Muslim community to keep up the progress. Other speakers present in the open session also spoke on the different crises the community is facing under the regime of successive governments.
