Abhiruchi Sports Day observed

GUWAHATI, Sept 3 - Around 1500 participants took part in the central function of the 34th Abhiruchi Sports Day here today.

The annual event marking the birthday of Assam�s first Arjuna awardee Bhogeswar Baruah on September 3 was celebrated in different places across the State.

The central function of the event witnessed the mass jogging being flagged off by Bhogeswar Baruah and Assam Khadi and Village Industries Board chairman Dr Kamala Kanta Kalita from the Chandmari fly-over at 6.15 am.

The other events held during the day were Physical Training (PT) and group dance competition at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium in the RG Baruah Sports Complex.

Guru Nanak High School secured the first position in mass jogging while P Baruah School of Nursing, Bethany High School and Pragjyotish Senior Secondary School occupied the second, third and fourth spot respectively. In the club section, Rani Coaching Centre occupied the top position while Guwahati Kho-Kho Coaching Centre and State Boxing Coaching Centre ensured the second and third position respectively.

Pragjyotish Senior Secondary School took the top spot in the group dance competition while Maharshi Vidya Mandir, Silpukhuri bagged the second position. Maharshi Vidya Mandir, Kalipur and Bethany High School were joint third.

In the PT competition, Sudarshan Public School walked away with the top position while Rising Star School and Bethany High School occupied the second and third position respectively. The felicitation programme for sportspersons of the State who represented India during the last year will be held at DTRP Indoor Stadium on September 9 at 5 pm.
