Abhilekh wins GTC chess GP

GUWAHATI, Nov 15 - Abhilekh Mahanta clinched the title in the 10th GTC Chess Grand Prix held at the Gauhati Town Club here today.

Altogether 45 players participated in this day-long event. The tournament was played in two categories � U-9 and U-19 . Abhinav Dubey, a U-9 unrated player and trainee of GTC Chess Foundation was the star performer of the day as he competed in the U-19 category securing 7th position in the final ranking list. The tournament was conducted by Biswajit Bharadwaj as the chief arbiter and he was assisted by Padma Gogoi, Ravikant Tiwari and Nandan Buragohain as his deputy.

The closing ceremony was attended by Dr Devajit Sarma, vice president, Guwahati Chess Association, Anjanjyoti Das, president, Assam Chess Club and Monimala Sinha, senior national arbiter.

Best U-13: Harshal Bajaj, Dhritiman Bez, Sakib Alam. Besy U-9: Anurag Gunjan Bora, Prachurjya Bhuyan, Jayaditya Das. Best U-7: Mrinmoy Rajkhowa, Faheem NH Bora, Barnav Deka.
