Abdul Majid to be GPC guest on June 16

GUWAHATI, June 13 � Veteran actor-director Abdul Majid will be the guest of the month of Guwahati Press Club (GPC) on June 16.

The interactive session is scheduled from 3 pm. Born at Jorhat in 1931, Majid started his career in theatre in 1950 at his home town. Till date, he has performed in over 200 plays staged in different parts of Eastern India.

Majid, on the other hand, started his career in celluloid through Ronga Police in 1957. He has also directed several movies including Maram Trishna, Chameli Memsaab, Banahangsha, Bonjui, Ponakon, Uttarkaal. Chameli Memsaab, for which Dr Bhupen Hazarika won the national award for music direction was awarded with Rajat Kamal in the 23rd National Film Festival (of India) as the best film in Assamese language.

Majid was honoured as the best director in the multilingual drama competition held in New Delhi in 1971. He was awarded with best director�s award for Assamese television serial Naamghoria.
