Abducted minor girl untraced, 8 detained in Cachar dist

SILCHAR, June 6 - At least eight persons have been detained by police on Tuesday in connection with the abduction of a two-year-old girl Shubhamita from the staff residential campus of Assam University Silchar.

According to Cachar SP Rakesh Roushan, �Eight persons have been picked up since last night and we are conducting raids across the district to trace Rambha Bagti alias Neha, the housemaid of Dr Shubhadeep Roy Choudhury, faculty at the Department of Life Science and Dr Satabhisha Roy Choudhury, medical officer at the university.� Roushan added to inform that they are looking at all possible angles to bring the child back to her parents.

Meanwhile, Dr Satabhisha Roy Choudhury said, �I just want to have my daughter back home.� Shubhamita is the granddaughter of noted educationist Samar Kanti Roy Choudhury.

It may be mentioned here that the minor girl was found missing since Monday afternoon, according to the neighbours of Dr Roy Choudhury. The minor was last seen with the housemaid at the residential campus of the varsity, who is also untraced so far . The neighbours mentioned that the housemaid was seen entering a white Alto car along with the minor girl on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, the incident has triggered panic among the fellow residents of the staff quarters.
